“Build it and they will come.”

This painting by Robert Hawkins came first and then the physical tower along with a collective of local artists providing the conceptual ornaments depicted in Robert’s painting to create what we now acknowledge as the beginning of Seidel City.

Seidel City is built on good bones. The space was once an Artists Services Network bronze foundry, founded in the late 1960s and early 1970s as a fully operational bronze-casting foundry. When the foundry closed, the artisans who worked there took over the wax and shell rooms, transforming them into their own private art studios. Bronze was poured and cast in what is now known as the “Tin Shed”—a home for poetry, punk rock, sound healing, and special art exhibitions. Today, Seidel City is a contemporary art lab and gallery focused on visual arts and representing both local and national artists.
